Conservation Research

The Conservation Research Program at the Institute for Applied Ecology conducts monitoring and research projects throughout Oregon and Washington. These projects include:

  • Monitoring rare, endangered and sensitive species in a variety of habitats,

  • Experiments on methods, including using fire, herbicides, and mowing, to restore native habitats,

  • Rare plant reintroduction using both seeds and greenhouse-grown transplants,

  • Using long-term demographic studies to make predictions on population trajectories,

  • Writing conservation and monitoring plans, and

  • Conducting surveys for rare plant species.

For more details on some of our current projects, please visit our Project Highlights page. You can find reports from prior years' work here.

Please contact us if you have any questions or wish to form a partnership.

Overheard

"Volunteers are the backbone, heart, and soul of the restoration movement. And whatever the eventual results of their labors may be, working to revive damaged ecosystems is transforming and strengthening their relationship with the rest of nature."

-William K. Stevens, Miracle Under the Oaks
